Savu
Buckland, Surrey, UK
A wood-fired lakeside sauna that makes slowing down feel beautifully simple.
What we love
Wood-fired simplicity
A traditional sauna built around a handcrafted IKI wood-burning stove. Heat, cold, water, wood, landscape and time.
Heat, cold and the lake
Sessions move between the sauna and filtered, chilled cold plunges overlooking Buckland Park Lake.
Shared quiet
Phones stay out of the sauna and conversation is quiet, leaving room to disconnect, notice the body and slow down.
The sauna
Set beside Buckland Park Lake in the Surrey Hills, Savu is a Finnish-inspired, traditional wood-fired sauna built by brothers Ian and James.
At its centre is a handcrafted IKI wood-burning stove. Sessions move between the heat of the sauna and filtered, chilled cold plunges overlooking the lake, creating a simple rhythm of warmth, cold, stillness and recovery.
Community sessions are deliberately shared, while private sessions offer the same experience for smaller groups. Phones are kept out of the sauna, conversation is quiet and the emphasis is less on conventional spa luxury than on creating the conditions to disconnect, notice the body and slow down.
Why it’s here
Savu is a reminder that luxury does not have to mean excess.
There is very little here that is superfluous: heat, cold, water, wood, landscape and time. The experience draws on Finnish sauna tradition but places it naturally within the Surrey landscape, with care given to atmosphere, ritual and the way people share the space.
What makes it interesting is precisely its simplicity. Savu creates restoration not by adding more, but by taking things away.
