LOEWE

Madrid, Spain

Where centuries of craft are allowed to keep evolving.

What we love

Living craft

In the Madrid atelier, inherited knowledge sits alongside experimentation with materials, form and technique.

Support for makers

Through the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize, the house supports contemporary makers beyond its own collections.

Repair and reuse

ReCraft and the Surplus Project extend craft into repair, longevity and the creative reuse of existing materials.

Craft, continued

Founded in Madrid in 1846 by a collective of leather artisans, LOEWE has grown into one of the world’s most recognisable luxury houses without losing craft as the foundation of what it makes.

In its Madrid atelier, inherited knowledge sits alongside experimentation with materials, form and technique. Beyond its own collections, the house supports contemporary makers through the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize, while initiatives including ReCraft and the Surplus Project extend that thinking into repair, longevity and the creative reuse of existing materials.

Why it’s here

What makes LOEWE interesting is the relationship between desirability and substance.

Its objects are beautiful, playful and culturally relevant, but the craft behind them has not been reduced to a heritage story. Skills are practised, makers are supported, materials are increasingly scrutinised, and repair is treated as part of an object’s continuing life.

LOEWE demonstrates something important about modern luxury: tradition does not have to be preserved in amber to be preserved. It can be protected by continuing to use it, challenge it and give it relevance.
